What is a Lightboard?

Have you ever wanted to use a whiteboard in a video? Are you frustrated that you have to keep turning away from the camera to write on the white board? A Lightboard is a teaching tool for video presentations that utilizes a clear glass board for you to create and draw lessons on, much like a whiteboard. What makes the lightboard unique is the ability to maintain eye contact with your viewers by flipping the image in post-production.

Watch the short demo from Marie Bartlett below.

What Can You Use it For?

Uses

  • Write, draw, and annotate while talking directly to the viewer
  • Superimpose PowerPoint slides and annotate them
  • Get creative! Try combining real objects while you write.

Benefits

  • Maintain the benefits of writing on a whiteboard, such as working through complex formulae, concepts, illustrations, diagrams etc.
  • Maintain direct engagement with the viewer. There’s no need to turn around to the board! Maintaining eye contact, pointing to concepts, and hand gestures and facial expressions have all been shown to play a key role in learning (Roth, 2001).
  • Relatively easy post-production requirements.
  • Upload your recorded videos to Moodle or WordPress to allow students to watch during their own time and at their own pace.
